FAQ
The questions people ask before they get in touch.
If yours isn’t answered here, just ask — no question is too small.
-
How much does a session cost?
Session fees are confirmed during your free intro call, as they can depend on the type of session. Concessions may be available in some circumstances — it’s always worth asking. The first 20-minute intro call is free.
-
How many sessions will I need?
There’s no fixed answer, and no minimum commitment. Some people come for a few sessions to work through something specific; others value having an ongoing space over a longer period. We’ll review how things are going together, and you’re always free to stop when it feels right.
-
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. What you share in sessions is confidential. There are a small number of legal and ethical limits — for example, where there’s a serious risk of harm — and I’ll always explain these clearly at the start so you know exactly where you stand. Like all BACP-registered counsellors, I also discuss my work in regular clinical supervision, where your identity is protected.
-
Do you offer online sessions or only in person?
Both. Some people prefer the routine of coming to the same room each week; others find online sessions easier to fit around work, travel, or health. The warmth and confidentiality are the same either way. We can talk through what suits you on your intro call.
-
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
You don’t need to be in crisis, and you don’t need a diagnosis. If something feels heavy, stuck, or hard to carry alone, that’s reason enough. The free intro call exists precisely so you can find out — with no cost and no pressure — whether it feels like the right step.
-
What do people come to see you about?
All sorts of things — grief and bereavement, anxiety, low mood, stress and burnout, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-worth, or a general sense of feeling stuck. If what you’re facing isn’t on that list, it still belongs. You’re welcome exactly as you are.
-
What if I need help urgently?
Counselling isn’t an emergency or crisis service, and I’m not able to offer immediate or out-of-hours support. If you need help right now, please see our crisis & urgent help page, call NHS 111, or in an emergency call 999. There’s no shame in reaching for urgent help — it’s exactly what those services are there for.
-
How do I book, and what happens after I get in touch?
Fill in the contact form and I’ll reply personally, usually within two working days. We’ll arrange your free 20-minute intro call, and if it feels right, book your first session from there. No detail is needed in your first message — a sentence about what’s bringing you here is plenty.
